The crankshaft forms an important part of your combustion engine, requiring high fatigue strength and wear resistance as it circulates engine oil under pressure to many moving components, allowing the crankshaft to convert a linear to rotational motion with enough power to complete any task.
The oil provides lubrication to the bearings, which is crucial to prevent friction. Scoring of the crankshaft or bearing shells from dirty oil can cause the crankshaft to fail. Thankfully, the crankshafts from the Leyland 4/98 engine can be reground to take undersized bearings, and we can offer these standards size bearings and undersized bearings in 0.010” increments (0.010”, 0.020”, 0.030”, 0.040”, 0.050” and even 0.060” plus some sizes in 0.005 increments between these such as 0.015” and 0.045”). If you crankshaft has bent or if it is beyond regrinding this is not a problem as we are able to offer brand new crankshafts at standard size, complete with bearings ready to fit.
Any of the parts involved in the oil delivery system, including pumps, pressure relief valves, bearings, seals, filters and pulleys need to be checked and monitored regularly for wear-and-tear.
