Nuffield Tractor was founded in 1945 after World War II when the British government approached the Nuffield organisation to design a brand new tractor for the farming industry, leading to the iconic Nuffield Universal Three and Four which were fitted with BMC engines.
Tractor production continued under the Nuffield name until 1969 when the tractors were renamed as Leyland Tractors and the previous Nuffield Orange (sometimes mistakenly called Poppy-Red) tractors changed to the new two-tone blue Leyland colour scheme. Despite the subsequent changes in ownership and branding, the legacy of Nuffield Tractors remains in the history of British agricultural machinery today.
