Marshall 702 Fuel System

In order for the Leyland 4/98 engine in your Marshall 702 tractor to work effectively, fuel must be transferred from the fuel tank to the fuel injection system. This process involves lots of different parts and components, all of which must be functioning properly and working in a clean state. Symptoms of a problem within a Marshall fuel system include difficulty starting the engine (or it not starting at all), lack of power or excessive exhaust smoke, or even the engine cutting out due to lack of fuel getting into the engine. This can be through dirt ingress into the pipes and eventually into the high-pressure fuel injection pump, or it could be from air getting into the fuel system.
If you notice any of the above symptoms, it’s likely that a component within the fuel system has failed; e.g., fuel injectors, the high pressure fuel pump, a blocked fuel filter or a leaking pipe. On this page you’ll find all these fuel system parts which can be used to remedy these problems, as well as fuel injection pumps, gears, pipes, injector nozzles, injector sleeves and more.
The first and easiest thing to try when you have a fuel problem is to replace the fuel filter and make sure that this is clean and can function to filter out any particulates from the fuel that may have contaminated the fuel system. Once we have ruled out this problem, then there are several other things to try. Does the problem only occur when the fuel tank is nearly empty, but it goes away when you fill up the fuel tank? Then it is likely that you need to replace the fuel lift pump.
We offer service exchange fuel injection pumps, and we ask you to check the number off the side of your pump when you call up for a service exchange fuel injection pump. This is not us trying to be awkward, but we need to know what fuel pump you have on your engine now, as the fuelling should be set up to match the injection pump with the injectors. If you do not have the fuel injection pump that we would expect for a Marshall 702 tractor, then if we sent you the pump that should be on there, you would find that your tractor would still not run smoothly as then we would not have matched injectors and fuel pump. So, we always ask you to check the number off the side of the pump. We also need to know that we are getting back in exchange an old pump of the same type, so that we can keep the exchange process going for other customers for years to come. On a Marshall 702 tractor we would expect a Simms Minimec pump with pump number P4801. You can find this number on a metal plate on the side of the fuel injection pump.
